Two Words I Love…

Exploration and Experimentation!

Hello from Northern Virginia

I’m Christa – I love to play with bright colors and textures, mixing and layering to get intricate designs. I am a self-taught artist who works across many mediums. I am known for my digital art, colorful mobiles, 3D digital prints, abstracts, mixed-media, and jewelry.

My studio is very much a working studio – I am always working on multiple projects at once. When I’m not playing with paint, making custom jewelry or hanging mobiles, I’m often found experimenting with digital art. My digital art pieces are made by layering and blending photos on top of each other and applying a mixture of effects. The results are always abstract and full of vibrant colors. I like to learn new skills, apply them to different mediums, and experiment to create new and exciting outcomes.

Visit me at my studio in Round Hill, Virginia and stop by the Gateway Gallery to see my work and that of many other talented local artists.

Meet Big Bird

Big Bird has been a part of my family for many years. “Hello”, “Happy Holiday”, “Mark Your Buddy?”, and my favorite – “WonderBird!!!” – are only some of the phrases he says. He’s also really great at imitating the microwave beep, ringing phone and water dripping. If he sees you fixing a meal or getting a snack, he’ll say “Want a Cracker?” to remind you he would like a snack too. His favorite snacks are sunflower seeds and apple slices. He’s a joy to be around!

A Peek Inside My Chaos

Welcome to my studio! It’s not always this crazy, but it is always full of projects in various stages of completion. I love experimenting in a variety of mediums including acrylics, watercolors, alcohol inks, wax, encaustic wax, pen and ink, distress ink, collage and sculpture. I often use photos of these works and incorporate them into my digital art.

It’s not all Color

When I moved from a smaller studio into my current space, it took me a while to decide how to display by art. Should I mix it all together regardless of medium and color palette? Should I separate the originals from the digital art prints? What I finally decided was I would save one wall for work in only black and white and all the colored pieces would get mixed together in the remaining space. Even though the colors tend to encroach, I like that this gives the black and white pieces a place to shine and not get overwhelmed.
